In this three day workshop, we'll cover all the basics of wax carving including use of hand tools, flex shaft and wax materials. Learn to carve a basic ring and pendant using a variety of wax carving techniques including subtractive and additive with both hard and soft waxes. Work with in tandem with Daniel Casting, a Manhattan-based casting house to learn how to make a mold and cast your own wax models into metal. We’ll cover how to add sprues and make your own trees, investing, burnout and casting your own pieces in brass. Learn how to clean a casting in metal and tips and tricks of the trade. Materials and use of hand tools included (no need to bring your own tools). This is an intensive class taught with artist and author Emilie Shapiro in conjunction with a local mold maker and casting company.
